گلا galā गल S̱. 1. s. m. the throat, neck. 2. Voice. 3. (from گلنا) adj. Rotten, melted, wasted. گلا اٿهانا galā uṭhānā, (lit. to lift up the throat) To apply acrid substances, such as pepper, &c. to the uvula of a child, when it becomes hoarse, or loses its voice from the re- laxation of that part. گلا بندهانا galā bandhānā, To ensnare oneʼs self, especially in the bonds of love. گلا بيٿهنا يا پڙنا galā-baiṭhnā or -paṛnā, To be hoarse. گلا پهانسنا galā phāṅsnā, To hang, to choke. گلا دبانا galā dabānā, To strangle. گلا کاٿنا galā kāṭnā, To cut the throat. گلا گهوٿنا يا گهونٿنا galā ghoṭnā, or ghonṭnā, To throttle, to choke, to strangle, to hold by the throat. گلي پڙنا gale paṛnā, To seek the friendship of one who is averse from it. گلي پڙي بجاي سدهہ gale paṛī ba-jā-e sidh, We should make a virtue of necessity. گلي کا هارهونا gale kā hār honā, 1. To seek and persist in a quarrel or dispute, to tease, to plague, to importune. 2. To seek with ardour the friendship or affection of any one; to persecute with kindness or attention. گلي لگنا gale lagnā, v. n. To embrace. گلي منڐهنا gale manḍhnā, To importune.
